Engrosser's Script Basics (2 day lessons)  | 西方沾水筆 - 銅版體書法初班（兩天全日制課程) 

This 2-day (8 hours total) introductory course covers Engrosser's Script, a historical calligraphy style known for its elegant pen lifts and consistent shaded strokes. Popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the U.S., this traditional Copperplate hand is created with a pointed steel nib, requiring slow, precise motions. Each letter features multiple principal strokes, necessitating nib lifts between strokes.

Please BRING YOUR OWN TOOLS:
• Oblique pen holder
• A pointed pen nib e.g. Nikko G for beginners or Leonardt Principle EF for experienced calligraphers
• An ink that creates a fine hairline (e.g., walnut or Higgins Eternal or iron gall)
• 3 different Multi-color ball point pens for taking notes (suggested Blue, Red, Yellow)

8. Flourished Majuscules
9. Techniques - nib manipulation, pressure for shading and hairline
   
10. Appreciation of Historical Writing - original pieces from the 1800s will be presented for study

[ About Your Instructor ]

Kalo is the first calligrapher in Hong Kong to be awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Spencerian Script and Engrosser's Script by IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting.) 

Kalo has had the pleasure of teaching internationally, including at IAMPETH conferences in the U.S. (Spencerian in 2024 and Engrosser's Script in 2025) and the New York Society of Scribes in 2024 and 2025. She will also be teaching a 4 day Spencerian workshop at the Western Canadian Calligraphy Conference in October 2025.
