Engrosser's Script Basics 西方沾水筆銅版體書法初班
Join me for a two-day workshop where we’ll dive into the beauty of Engrosser’s Script! This historical script is known for its elegant pen lifts and consistent shaded strokes. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop is perfect for anyone eager to explore the timeless art of calligraphy.
Known for it's drastic shades and drawn structure, Engrosser's Script is a show-stopping traditional Copperplate hand. It is a historical calligraphy style that was widely popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the United States of America. It is written with a pointed steel nib with slow, precise motion. The key characteristics of Engrosser's Script is that each letter is made of a range of principle strokes, it requires the calligrapher to lift the nib from the paper in between strokes.
Here are the benefits from learning Engrosser's Script:
- Build a solid letterform to enhance your current (modern) calligraphy;
- Develop a writing rhythm and consistent letter spacing through frequent pen lifts;
- Create clean shades for the downstrokes and sharp hairlines for the upstrokes;

In 2024, I was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Engrosser's Script by IAMPETH, with my experience and known, my aim is to guide you in developing skillful pen control and a keen understanding of the letter forms. I am also honoured to be invited to teach Engrosser's Script at IAMPETH Annual Conference in Norfolk, Virginia this summer!

• $2,500 per person with 10 hours total of learning
• Including 1 custom folder with your name calligraphy; all handouts and copysheets.

Please BRING YOUR OWN TOOLS - your penholder (preferably oblique), your favourite nib and ink (recommended Walnut or Higgins Eternal Black or any dark coloured inks) OR purchase our Calligraphy Starter Kit here.
[ Course Curriculum ]
- Exercises to strengthen the foundational strokes used to build the letterforms
- An in depth study of the full lower and upper case alphabets
- Technical structure and spacing of letters, words, and lines of text.
